Open Call for a new International Competition for Young Artists Kartina Mira.

On October 23, the start of the application campaign for the International Competition for Young Artists Kartina Mira was announced. Students and graduates of art educational organizations of secondary and higher education in Russia and foreign countries, as well as independent Russian and foreign artists aged 18 to 35, are invited to participate. The competition was initiated by Innopraktika company. The competition is jointly organized by the State Tretyakov Gallery, Saint Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts named after Ilya Repin with the support of the Meganom Academy of Creative Industries. The project is sponsored by Gazprombank.

You can apply for the competition on the official website until March 1, 2025.

The International Competition for Young Artists Kartina Mira is held to support artists aged 18 to 35 and to engage them in the creation of works on socially significant subjects. Another goal of the competition is to find new impulses for cultural exchange and the transmission of traditional values through art.
The start of the competition was announced earlier by Sergei Novikov, Chief of the Presidential Directorate for Social Projects. At the X St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum, he said: "The head of the Tretyakov Gallery together with the head of Innopraktika company announced the launch of the competition Kartina Mira. This is a competition for young artists. Upon selection and passing all the competitive mechanics, the young artists will be given the opportunity to exhibit at the Tretyakov Gallery. This is important for a young person, because a line about exhibiting works in the Tretyakov Gallery will appear in his or her CV, which is a sign of quality and a platform for further creative career”.
The theme of the competition, i.e. “The values of my nation as part of the global human culture”, engages young artists in a creative exploration of traditions and their development in the modern world. Through artistic images the participants are invited to show the cultural heritage of their peoples, to present the versatility and relevance of art, to reveal possible scenarios of technological, social, environmental and political changes.
“Any attempts to isolate our culture have been futile and have had rather the reverse effect. This is confirmed by the International Exhibition of Young Art Art.Youth, which we organized at the World Youth Festival in March this year. Despite the tight deadline, there were 2,601 entries from 110 countries. It certainly makes sense to continue this experience, to give young creators a constructive voice. Kartina Mira competition is dedicated to the fact that every young artist, Russian or foreign, could demonstrate their skills and claim to be exhibited in the main galleries of our country”, - Sergey Pershin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, said.
Kartina Mira competition is held in three categories: painting, graphics and digital art, computer graphics and animation. Students and graduates of art educational organizations of secondary and higher education in Russia and foreign countries, as well as institutionally free independent young Russian and foreign artists aged 18 to 35 inclusive, are invited to participate in the competition. You can apply for the competition on the official website until March 1, 2025.

The winners will be determined in three stages. Representatives of the Youth Creative Council will select 100 works that meet the competition requirements. From these applications, the competition's Creative Council will select the 50 best works to be shortlisted for the competition. On the basis of the ranking voting, 14 finalists will be chosen, whose works will be presented at the exhibition in the branch of the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad within the 5th Kantata International Classical Music Festival.
“The Tretyakov Gallery was delighted to be part of the competition founders. We believe that such initiatives not only promote and popularize contemporary art among the visitors of the Museum, but also stimulate the development of creative potential of all participants of the competition, set new impulses for cultural exchange and, of course, support young talents in the field of art in Russia and in the world. I would like to emphasize the scale of the competition, its ‘internationality’. Leading art universities in China, India, Africa have supported the project by joining the creative council whose members will select the applications. The result of the competition will be the opening of the exhibition of the winning works, which will be held in the branch of the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad in June 2025”, Elena Pronicheva, General Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery, commented.
According to Semyon Mikhailovsky, Rector of St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts named after Ilya Repin, the launch of the International Competition Kartina Mira is a great opportunity to support young artists, discover new names and give impetus to their creative development.
“I am sure that many people will respond and submit worthy works to the authoritative jury. There are many youth music competitions in Russia, but not a single serious competition for young artists. The fact that the winners' works will be exhibited at the Tretyakov Gallery imparts a special significance to the entire endeavor. After all, this is something we can only dream about,” Mikhailovsky notes.
