Thousand Year Legacy
Dung Nguyen Tuan | Vietnam
The installation mimics a celestial beam of light descending from above: hundreds of repurposed tin cans fragments — styled as smartphones and tablets — are arranged in a wave-like composition on a circular wooden panel. Each element features engraved traditional patterns and scenes from Vietnam’s craft villages. A motion sensor activates LED backlighting, transforming the piece into a dynamic artwork visible from every angle.

The work visualizes the connection between eras — inside these "gadgets" lie depictions of labor, nature, and dynastic heritage. The radiant light symbolizes culture’s timelessness: even in the modern world, its values remain a guiding beacon. The artist emphasizes Vietnam’s uniqueness, where traditions — unlike globalized trends — cannot be "recycled". This piece is a manifesto of national pride and a call to preserve history through art.
