My work is dedicated to ballet — an art form deeply rooted in Russian artistic tradition, but at the same time uniting cultures of different countries. In this context, I am interested in how an individual identity of a person is expressed within the strict framework of a common tradition that becomes a part of a global cultural language.
The composition is based on the image of a young ballerina during rehearsal. I depicted two nearly identical characters performing the same movement. For me, this symbolizes how, even within strict academic discipline and repeated choreography, each dancer retains her own sense of rhythm, unique character, and inner emotional state.
I wanted to reveal the hidden, fragile beauty of rehearsal — a working moment which is usually invisible to the audience. I revised my old sketches made in ballet class and decided to breathe new life into them years later.
My Two Dancers reflect on how, rooted in Russian artistic tradition, art becomes a part of a universal cultural space, allowing people from different countries to feel an invisible connection and to transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries.
